Big Idea” Questions:

What is a catalyst? Give examples of how a catalyst can bring about profound change in the world.

Discuss ways that kings began to increase their power. How did this contribute to the rise of the nation state?

Globalization basically means an interconnected world. Discuss several things that helped to create a global community.

By 1700, many European powers began to explore the world and claim new territories. What were their motivations for establishing overseas colonies?

Discuss ways that the Renaissance philosophy of humanism and new scientific understandings began to change people’s view of the world, society, and their place in it. Use specific examples to illustrate your points.
